Position Summary:
The Design Assistant for XclúJohn will play a crucial role in bringing the brand's vision to life by constructing garments, assisting with design development, and contributing to the creative process. This position offers a unique opportunity to work remotely while supporting a growing fashion brand, with responsibilities ranging from garment production to assisting with design sketches and packing orders. Initially, this role will be project-based, with flexible hours and piecework pay. Once the brand moves into a studio, the position may transition to an official part-time role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Garment Construction: Sew garments for custom orders, 1of1s and collections (RTW) using high-quality craftsmanship.
- Design Support: Assist with sketches, pattern adjustments, and creative ideation for new designs.
- Order Fulfillment: Help pack and fulfill orders as needed to support operations.
- Project Preparation: Coordinate with the Creative Director to understand project details and execute efficiently.
- Material Handling: Pick up and drop off fabrics, notions, and finished products during scheduled exchange days.
- In-Person Meetings: Attend mandatory in-person meetings up to two times per month to review productivity, test design work, and ensure alignment.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Piecework Pay: Compensation is based on the number of completed projects, with rates depending on complexity and intricacies. Piecework rates will always equate to a minimum of $18/hr & an average of $20/hr with the expectancy of efficiency and quality craftsmanship- we value ethical pay and take pride in not only pay transparency, but also being a small brand that pays appropriately according to the overall job market and Atlanta metro area.
- Hourly Pay Options: Earn additional hourly pay for assisting with order packing and other operational/logistical tasks (optional).
- Referral Bonus: Earn for every customer referral that results in a purchase.
- Equipment Benefit:
- If the assistant does not have sewing equipment, XclúJohn will provide a full setup (industrial sewing machine, foldable cutting table, tools, etc.), which becomes theirs after two years of employment (contingent on meeting all expectations).
- If the assistant already owns equipment, they are eligible for a monthly stipend for tune-ups, oil, and maintenance.
Requirements:
- Must be based in Atlanta, GA.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Proven experience in sewing, garment construction, or related design work.
- Ability to collaborate creatively while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong time-management skills and the ability to meet deadlines consistently.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate with the Creative Director and team.
- Willingness to sign agreements, including:
- Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA): To protect the confidentiality of XclúJohn’s designs and processes.
- Equipment Responsibility Agreement: To ensure accountability for the provided equipment. If equipment is lost or damaged due to negligence, the Design Assistant will be held financially responsible.
- Conflict of Interest Agreement:
- If the Design Assistant owns a personal brand or works elsewhere in sewing or designing, they must agree not to produce or share any designs that clearly replicate XclúJohn for a 10-year period after their employment ends. This includes:
- Releasing similar designs under their own brand.
- Relaying or sharing designs with others for production or commercial purposes.
- Using our patterns in any way, shape or form.

- Project Timeline:
- Projects must be completed within 3 days of receiving the materials and instructions unless otherwise stated. This timeline applies to both small and 'large' orders, with specific deadlines provided for urgent projects. We will always be realistic about turn around periods. For every project/order we lend off, we know exactly how long it takes to create, so we will never have unrealistic expectations. We will always be reasonable while holding the design assistant to the standard and expectation of a seasoned professional.
- Work Environment:
- This position is remote, with all necessary materials provided for each project/order.
- Regular in-person meetings (averaging once a month, up to twice a month) are required for productivity reviews and testing design work for multi-order production.
